I was in New York City last weekend and got a chance to meet up with a lot of family and friends. Having spent 8 years in the area I have some fond memories. NYC always has contributed in positive and negative ways to my idea for startup city.
The segregation of the greenery from the living/working spaces is a big no no for me and you see it first hand in NYC.
Anyway, a big reason for my visit was to connect with my genius cousin to get help with my plan for the city.
Since I am hoping to hire a few research people for the city before year end, I know I need to raise at least $150,000 for 2020 just for the employees and office space.
What I told my cousin was that I’m thinking of asking $150/year to become a member of the nonprofit. If I can get 1,300-1,500 people to sign up, I’m in business.
He was honest and told me 1,500 people @ $150 per year would be a hard pull so prepare for slow progress. He also suggested multi year plans so I don’t have to depend on people renewing every year.
Good points and I am considering. In the meantime, the calendar says it’s February so now April 1st is starting to feel real. Startup city will no longer be stealth. I’ve started mentioning it more openly so get ready.
Thanks for the support!
